Boundaries

The topographic drawings discuss place through memory. Each set is based on a boundary from the artist’s personal history: each a significant part of her identity. These boundaries range from locations she has lived herself, to locations from which her Italian family emigrated. The black works are a direct transposition of the boundary, the white a mirror reflection. Each line is then based solely only on the last. While the point of origin is technically the same, it becomes little more than an idea as the lines expand outward. In many ways, these works are an attempt to respectfully let go of the past, and to acknowledge that how we remember is not necessarily how it was.
