Living Memorial Garden is a community memorial honoring those taken too soon and all who love them. Centered around an oak tree at Los Angeles State Historic Park, the memorial provides public space to grieve in the face of continued loss. Angelenos who experienced loss during COVID were invited to create and tie a strip of fabric in honor of a loved one. Participants are welcome to create many ties, as many have experienced multiple losses. Ties may share the name of their loved one, and/or their relationship (sister, neighbor, friend, father) as every individual lost represents a lifetime of relationships to others. The co-creation of this work acknowledges that each loss is felt by many who may not have the opportunity to grieve together.
