Cartographic drawings (Radial)
—
Derived from the need to structure a fragmented past, the radial drawings explore physical space, both fictional and actual. The seven fragmented works use significant geographic boundaries from Scacco’s past to divide fabricated continents. These locations make up her history, identity and ultimate displacement. When scaled, rotated, and positioned, the sum of these seven continents is New York City, where Scacco was born.
The circle as a contour shape was chosen for all it symbolizes: the cartographic vernacular of ‘you are here’, the continuous whole, the parallel between the circle and endlessness. The circle when fragmented presents the actual past, while the circle as a whole presents fiction.
